  2. Action Item 1: SoCalGas Educational Grants for STEM Initiatives for Westchester/Playa Schools (Due March 15)

    Discuss grant funding opportunities for all local schools: As discussed in previous months, another competitive grant funding opportunity from SoCalGas will be available for schools (charter, parochial, private, public) located in Westchester, Playa del Rey, and Playa Vista, The applications must pertain to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that make contributions to energy and/or sustainability within the 2018 calendar year. The Public Affairs Manager of SoCalGas, Mike Harriel, will attend the meeting to discuss the grant announcement. The LAX Coastal Education Foundation will be reviewing the applications in March and distributing the awards in the Spring. Applications are available from the LAX Coastal Education Foundation (www.LAXCoastalEdFoundation.com); submissions are due by March 15, 2018.

  3. Action Item 2: Discuss NCWP Neighborhood Purposes Grants (Westchester/Playa Public Schools are Eligible to Apply); Due February 25

    Discuss grant funding opportunities for local public schools: Grants with a maximum of $1,500 per award from the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa (NCWP) may be awarded to public schools and 501c3 non-profit organizations located in Westchester, Playa del Rey, and Playa Vista that, among other criteria, clearly demonstrate a public benefit. This competitive grant mechanism is the Neighborhood Purposes Grants (NPG). The submission deadline is February 25, 2018 because the applications will be voted on at the March 6, 2018 NCWP Board meeting but have to be first reviewed by the NCWP Budget and Finance Committee. The application form is attached to this agenda.

  4. Action Item 3: Planning for NCWP Booth at Rock, Roll, and Run 5K/1K for Education (March 10)

    The NCWP Board approved the Education Committee's request to sponsor a booth at the LAX Coastal Education Foundation's Rock, Roll, and Run 5K/1K for Education in partnership with Loyola Marymount University. The race and community expo will be held at LMU on March 10th at 8am. Like the previous three years, the NCWP's booth will be hosted by the Education and Outreach committees. Because last year was such a success, we will again serve popcorn to the community at our booth while discussing opportunities available through the NCWP. Discussion about staffing the event, logistics, and other outreach opportunities will be discussed.
